Henry, the FBAR (reporting of foreign bank accounts) has been around for a long time. I think the imaginary person (who probably went to law school themselves!) should not be asking me that question ;) Generally, the fine/imprisonment is imposed when there has been tax fraud, etc. but of course, consult competent counsel.

I have never heard of the TD F 90-22.1 Form. Has this been around for a while? If a hypothetical person didn’t know about this form, and then heard about it and filed it, would the IRS fine this imaginary person for the years he or she didn’t file?

I’m a new reader of yours and find your articles “spot on” You mentioned that you do not own TLT (and I am assuming you don’t own any other related securities such as TBT). What’s your reason for this? Is it the counterparty risk? If yes, could you provide a couple of details that explain the counterparty risk when one purchases this type of EFT?
