Thanks Dan. It is pretty poignant of a picture.

I agree with you on the local shop and GoldMoney.

I have heard some negative things about Monex but have had no dealings with them personally. The BBB rating of F for Monex does not inspire much confidence in me: http://www.la.bbb.org/BusinessReport.aspx?CompanyID=24970

I have dealt with Apmex.com, highly recommend them and do not think they have minimums. Also, I have a friend who runs GoldSilver.com and would recommend his operation also.

Apmex - BBB A+ http://oklahomacity.bbb.org/WWWRoot/Report.aspx?site=83&bbb=0995&firm=7002053
GoldSilver - BBB B+ http://idahofalls.bbb.org/WWWRoot/Report.aspx?site=20&bbb=1096&firm=90024562

Trace,

The Lord of the Rings picture is about the best visual that I can think of when trying to describe many politicians and their financial advisors. A picture is worth a thousand words and that one tells us everything we need to know about the current state of affairs.

You can purchase silver at your local coin shop (if they have it in stock, which has lately not been the case in my locale). Depending on how much you plan to buy and whether you would like to have it in your basement or a vault somewhere, there are lots of options. GoldMoney.com is a great way to purchase gold or silver without large transaction costs and premiums over the spot price. If you want to take physical delivery, I have found that Monex (out of Newport Beach) is reasonably competitive in terms of the premium above spot. I believe the minimum initial order is $5K.
