		<description>It is possible to buy US Treasuries direct from the USG through http://www.treasurydirect.gov/  This at least eliminates the counter party risk of the broker/banker/dealer, since you are lending your FRNs directly to the USG.

One problem that the PTB have created is the volatility in the price of gold and silver, which means that you have to buy low and sell high or risk losing part of your principal.  This makes them less attractive than they would otherwise be, since you are required to time the market for shorter term holdings.  Just one of their methods of discouraging people from moving down to the bottom of the pyramid.</description>
